The first foreign branch of MEPhI opens in Tashkent
The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, Director General of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom Aleksey Likhachev, representatives of the leadership of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Atomic Energy Development Agency Uzatom, and the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
"The establishment of a MEPhI branch in our country is key in solving the problem of training highly qualified personnel of nuclear power plants and all nuclear infrastructure," said Abdulla Aripov. The Prime Minister of Uzbekistan said that thousands of young people from all regions of the country will be able to graduate in the nuclear field.
Aleksey Likhachev, in turn, noted that staff training "in the first foreign branch of MEPhI is the basis for the development of the nuclear industry in Uzbekistan." “We are pleased that our cooperation with our Uzbek colleagues in this area is developing successfully,” the head of Rosatom added.
The branch of MEPhI in Tashkent was established by agreement of the Presidents of Russia and Uzbekistan as part of the project of construction of the first nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan. The first admission of 100 students in the 2019-2020 academic year ended in July, the competition was six to seven people per place. Students will be trained in four engineering specialties in the field of nuclear energy.
